This companion piece to the HBO documentary of the same name sheds light on the hidden epidemic of addiction. Blending compelling personal narratives with statistics and expert opinions, Addiction offers a provocative and comprehensive look at the impact of chemical addiction on addicts, their loved ones, society, and the economy.

Addiction features new material not included in the documentary, including testimonials, original graphics and images, additional elaboration on theories and treatments of addiction, and more. It also includes an introduction from Sheila Nevins, President of Documentary and Family Programming at HBO, and an afterword by Susan Cheever.

HBO, in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), National Institute on Drug Addiction (NIDA), and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), is producing a multi-platform campaign to educate the public about advancements in the understanding of drug and alcohol addiction and its treatment as a brain disease. The centerpiece is a 90-minute documentary scheduled to air March 15 - 18, 2007. Click here to buy the book.
